Tricolor Stalking

I've been fortunate to have had lots of these guys in Bayou Sauvage the past few weeks. There were several of these, mostly juveniles, and close range, often close enough to get head shots with the 300. Taken this morning under cloudy, rainy and pretty windy conditions, but this one was sheltered from the wind. Cropped 3:2 from 4/3rds original. Larger image included.

If you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have guessed about the weather. The overcast day certainly helped with the exposure on this shot and made for nice saturated colors. Nice stationary "action" pose from the bird. A nice composition with the reflection.

Nice little juvie here - fine detail and pose.
A lower angle would have improved this, but perhaps there was an elevated boardwalk where you had to remain.
The bright green is a little distracting, imo ; perhaps some darkening would also improve this.

I'll agree with Sandy. I suspect you were as low as you could get on your tripod.

Sandy and Phil, you are correct. The tripod was fully collapsed, and I could not spread the legs because the boardwalk was at an angle, and doing so would have blocked part of the scene. I was happy to have gotten at such a close range as to not use an extender for this.

Excellent detail and nice stalking pose Bill, I would have preferred the head turned a bit more towards you. :toast:
