Mom and wee one

Shot at a local Dahlia farm. I usually carry a piece of black matboard with me that can be held behind a bloom. I know lots of floral photographers like being able to isolate the subject.

Thanks for stopping, Larger version available

Craig - Very good idea to use the black mat board. I wonder if using a large enough print of a completely OOF background of color (lets say Green for this one) is possible. I have seen some people do that - gives it a more natural feel I think.

I really like how the main Dahlia is rendered...layer after layer with some strong lighting for the edges. I am not connecting with the Bud on the top.

Very appealing concept, Craig - and for me it works well - there's just a hint of something like a moon orbiting a planet which I rather like. Nice control of the reds too - they look good against the black.

An interesting effect with your pp on the lighting you had. Very creative and an artistic piece.
