My first Cardinal

Hi again, Everyone! Thanks for your comments on my woodcock picture! This is another picture from "The Biggest Week" at Magee Marsh in Ohio this spring. I know cardinals aren't very out of the ordinary for most of you, but we pretty much NEVER see them around our home in Alberta. I actually saw a male cardinal the day before I took this picture but he didn't cooperate very well, so I was really happy when this female perched right in front of me!

This is another picture taken with my new Nikon V1 with the AF-S 300mm f/4 lens on it. It's almost full-frame, we just cropped a little off to remove some extra branches.

Thank you for looking and commenting!

Nikon 1 V1
AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4 IF-ED lens
ISO 220
1/250sec @ f/5
-0.3 EV
monopod

Dad's Processing Notes:
Converted from RAW using Phase One Capture One Pro 7
Minimal adjustments to tone and contrast using Nik Viveza 2 in PS5
Cloned a very distracting bright branch from ULC
Very light gaussian blur applied to background to soften contrasting branches
Cropped to app. 85% of original

You catch this pretty gal in a nice pose, Marlise. And she picked a nice perch, too. A nicely composed photo, good exposure, and a nice palette of colors. They are pretty special birds. I miss them.

What a beautiful bird Marlise.
Good pose, good perch, good composition
The background could have been a bit distracting but you've tamed it well. :toast:
