Green Heron on a Rail

Needless to say I would wish for a better perch. There were two Greenies that were hanging out in Bayou Sauvage on Wednesday, and although I got several frames in a natural setting, I wasn't happy with them. But while I was there, much to my surprise this one flew in and landed on the nearby handrail about 20 feet away. I shot about 20 images like this one, even a couple of head and shoulders portraits. Thought that I would share because I doubt I'll ever get this close to a Greenie again. Full frame, larger image included.

Exceptional detail on this fellow, down to the "scales" on the legs.
Looks like he is missing a toe on the left foot?
The perch doesn't bother me a bit - not ideal, but certainly ok.
Fine image! Looking forward to some of the head shots too.

The gorgeous heron more than makes up for the perch. Very nice! Sharon
