For the past four years, I've been hitting the summer tractor/threshing shows almost every weekend. They are great places for all kinds of shots! As a bonus, I get to see & hear huge machines and get very dirty.

This weekend I went to the annual "James Valley Threshers Association" meet, unoffically called the "Andover Steam Show," in the tiny town of Andover, SD. The show is smaller than many of the others in the region, but that makes the equipment much more accessible. They do have about two dozen steam tractors running there, making it second only to the Rollag show. These are awesome!
In the below shot, they had x5 steamers pulling plows in a wheat field. The equipment was c.1910. I had a great time darting about with my Leica IIIc and Nikon D7100 catching action shots. The trick is to pay close attention to where the moving machines are so you don't get squished!

I spent as much time checking for heavy machinery moving my way as I did looking through the viewfinder. I came home heavily covered with dust and soot--the sure sign I had fun!
