Black Capped Chickadee

I stopped at the blind on the River S loop at Ridgefield Sunday and there were several chickadees working the cattails. I found it interesting that they were in the old pollen area rather than the seeds.

1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, monopod, f8, 1/250, iso640, Av mode with -2/3 compensation. Processed in CS6 and cropped to 4.6MP (unfortunately getting closer wasn't an option). Taken September 8th at 8:43 am.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Nice shot Dennis. I do like the cattails and the blades of grass. I would have cleaned out the feathers of the bird by cloning and kept only the food around the beak. I like the falling bits of food.

Neat photo! I like the way you have all of those lines leading to the bird. I would not change a thing with this photo, except being a little closer which you have already addressed. Thanks for sharing.

neat shot, Dennis. I like the comp a lot as well as the setting. all the falling debris from the chickadee is cool too. not a habitat I associate with chickadees either!

Too bad about the distance - I like the elements of this composition but really wish it was tighter. It would help show better definition and separate the eye from the dark face a bit better.

I have seen the chickadees doing this in the cattails myself but never photographed it, a fine behavioral image and comp Dennis :toast:
