Difficult Iris

Shot this at the Zilker Botanical Garden in Austin this spring.

The lawn was in bright sunlight in the background and I couldn't find a way to get a clean comp, even with a 300mm lens. The flower was beautiful so I tried to make the most of the situation and took a few shots. The colors in the flower seems to complement the color of the bright lawn well.

There appears to be some fringing, I think due to the bright background. It didn't bother me much. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment.

Sanjay

The background in nicely complementary color wise and I do like your comp. It might be worth dodging the brightest area of the background to reduce how much attention it grabs. I would like to see a bit more space between the petal in the lower right and the edge of the frame.

Good colors and DOF. The comp and DOF are problematic to me.

"Good colors and DOF. The comp and DOF are problematic to me." Hmmm, I guess Phil is really on the fence about the DOF.

I like it, Sanjay. I agree with Mark that the bright areas of the bg are a little overpowering and that a pinch more room on the right would be preferable, but I otherwise like the dynamic, bold comp and color.

Sanjay, I like the beautiful color combo here. The colors in the iris match very well the color of the background. I wish there was more room on the right side.

Sanjay: The bright BG is a tough one. About the only solutions I could think of would be to flash the main subject and/or put up a backdrop of some sort. Beautiful flower. >=))>

Sanjay - I think fringing can be removed as part of processing if you wish - but it is'nt hurting this much compared to the bright background. I like Bill's idea very much. Under-exposing the background and putting some strong reflected light on the Iris might be the way out but not sure what your options were at the time of the shoot.
