Mountain Plover

This past spring we located a pair of Mountain Plovers on Antelope Island - this is one of them. This was only the 10th verified report of the species in Utah.

These birds showed no fear and often came very close to my pickup so this image may be a little tight for some, especially at bottom. I probably should have removed the tc but I was missing lots of shots during the tc swapping process...

7D, 1/2500, f/7.1, ISO 500, 500 f/4, 1.4 tc, shot from pickup window on 4/10/13, cropped to 88% of original image, sharpening to bird, minor exposure adjustment in ACR, no additional processing or adjustments, natural light

Excellent - I'm very jealous! Some winter here in central AZ but are difficult to locate and even harder to get within camera range.

Very nice dertail and exposure; good pose and setting. I'd love to have taken this.

They tell me that this Plover appears at the Salton Sea, but I am never there at that time of year. So, thank you for sharing such a beautiful photo of one of them, Ron.

Hi Ron: Excellent shot of this plover. Glad you shared it with us!! I don't mind the tighter crop on this at all. It doesn't feel too tight to me. Perfect exposure sets off the plover nicely against the natural background.

This is really good!
Nice soft light, not too big in the frame for me.
Congrats on a great find and a very nice photo.

Great find Ron, nice light and all the techs look fine. Don't mind the size of the bird in the frame personally.
