Cow Elk

I thought this was an interesting image of a cow elk. Certainly not your standard shot. I like the soft colors and blurred background. She walked up close to me very quickly and I had no chance to back up. This is full frame. The shutter speed is also incredibly slow. I was on a tripod, so it came out pretty sharp. Comment and critiques welcome.

I have always liked the subtle colors in the coat of an elk. The pale oof background does work nicely with that coloration. The composition is kind of quirky, but sometimes that quirkiness can make a photo stand out and encourage the viewer to spend a bit more time taking in the details. The best focus is on the head and her ear carriage and alert eye speaks volumes about her alert and wary nature. You left some room on the left side, as if she had just been looking in that direction and her attention had been drawn to some unseen danger behind her. Cool photo.

Jerry ...I recently tried my hand at making images of Bisons in the wild, and understood that composing is no easy thing with them ..how do and where do you place them in the frame was the big question.

You may say that this is not a standard image, but I feel its a good image with the light on the face and the head turn, the detail is very good and the light fantastic... :toast: Very well composed ..I like this one

Like the position of her head with one ear back and one ahead. Nice color. Thanks for sharing.

Jerry, your image not only captures the beautiful colors and graceful details of this cow elk - but with her ears and eyes covering all quadrants...it shows their alert nature very well. Perfect tones and smoothness to the BG too.
