Canon 7D,Canon60mm2.8lens,1/1600sec,f7.1,ISO500. Approx40% of original.
I have always had trouble getting action shots of these little devils & this was no exception. Lots of perseverance required.

This is great, Roger. Talk about tack sharp! This is it and a large crop to boot. Lovely colors and a good comp. I agree, that for something that hovers right in front of you, there sure are difficult to get a photo of. I'm surprised you didn't have more detail in the wings given your shutter speed.

I don't know what is more impressive, Roger, the magnification of the hover or the superb detail. Well, I guess both combine to make this very impressive. The detail is really superb! :toast:

Despite their name I'm not sure how much they hover. They seem to flit from one spot to another (as this one is doing) with very little air time - perhaps that's what makes flight shots so difficult.

Extraordinary capture, Roger ! These are so hard to pin down in flight - I can only guess how long you spent getting this shot. Wonderful detail and great dof.

Wow! I have never seen so much detail in a hoverfly shot!

I don't think I could do as well with a stationary model. :toast: :toast:

Absolutely perfect flight shot! The details rival the best of stationary poses, and the action of the wings, with the fly over colorful flowers, and yet backed up by a wonderfully soft background make this photograph absolutely first rate. Congrats on a well-deserved WP.
