Peregrine falcon
by David Sewell
It's been a while since I posted in this gallery, and the shot itself is not new, being a reworking of one I took in the spring of 2012. Peregrines were nesting on the white cliffs of Dover and a combination of thermals and the right wind direction meant that I could predict where they were going to fly over the top of the cliff. The rest was just a matter of waiting, and accepting that with wild peregrines in flight the successful hit rate would not be that high. This is my favourite shot out of many sessions at the top of the cliffs.
They successfully brought off two chicks in 2012, but did not use the site again this year.
