The Broken. The Holy.

Large version available.

Another from Sparks. South sister and Broken top as seen from the lake in early morning. A 4 minute exposure seemed to work well here as the clouds were moving in the direction of broken top, which was also the direction the light was coming from. Broken Top was obviously the chosen one on this particular day. I prefer this shot over my previous shot focusing on south sister, even though that composition is perhaps better... or the foreground at least. I just can't get over the weird processing I had to do on it to get it to look decent. Woe is me.

When I exposed this, I couldn't get the white balance in camera to work with me. My raw shot is almost completely blue. Raw to the rescue, again! Was really pretty shocked I was able to pull the color back into this.

Your thoughts and criticisms appreciated as always!

Ted

Sweet image Ted! Sparks Lake doesn't get much better than this. I like how you used the long exposure to create the streaks in the sky. Great colors and the smooth reflection is icing on the cake. No nits from me.

Definitely one of the best of the best I have seen from here. The long exposure does wonders for this. I did notice in the large version there is a slight sharpening halo on the right peak. Probably web compression, but regardless this is just amazing.

Well done! I can see the sharpening halo Peter mentioned. Not bad, but definitely there. I use a small (3-4 pixel) blur brush where I get sharp edges like this, applied very carefully at large magnification.

Thanks for the comments! Glad you dig it! I see the halo issues so I went back in and did some touching up. I thought I had them all the first time! After zooming, I definitely did not. Hopefully got them all on this pass.

No criticism, just good thoughts. Really like the framing of the foreground. The comp and light are magical. Will mention that this sort of feels like a Ted Gore ad with the prominent placement of "Ted Gore PHOTOGRAPHY" and no mention of "©". Oops, I guess, that's a criticism. Regardless, I think this is a wonderful image.

Wow... hero status to be able to rescue that picture although I have no idea what it looked like before. But this is brilliant.

Here is the original unprocessed raw file if anyone is curious about the miracle I performed

Tony, sorry about the placement of my signature, I didn't want to place it on the bottom because it would have been right on top of that line in the foreground. Not sure what you mean about the copyright. Do I need to have it on the image or something?

The movement in the clouds is perfect here, giving the entire image a neat sense of exploding from the region around the peak on the right.

Everything came together for you to produce a stunning image. It is really a neat feeling when you put your time in and all the conditions come together so you can create an image like this. I can see this really large on a wall. Beautiful.

Wow, way to pull out the color. I would say tone down the mist, seems brighter than the sky to me.

Lovely image, and you did a great job pulling the color. I agree that the mist is a little bright. Also, your sig is quite distracting, at least to me. The sky and the reflection look great.

Well, you know my feelings about this place. This another top shelf shot from there.

This his more of an in your face kind of intensity to it compared to the other. They both make me say "Holy Crap" but for different reasons.

Wow! Looking at the RAW file you posted you did indeed perform a miracle  But the colors look great! I'm torn between this version and the non-cloud streak version you posted elsewhere. Both are great shots.
