mating sticks

Discovered this pair of walking sticks mating in some low flowering shrubs. Had to work over the plants carefully as to not crush any of them. The light was variable as the sun was in and out of clouds. Started with a macro lens but could not get both sticks all in. The male was closest to the camera.

This made me study it for a while to discern both individuals! It would have been advantageous to get them against a more open background, but of course they had a "do not disturb" sign on the door nob!
