Fairy-throated hummingbird (Panterpe insignis) in Costa Rican highlands. The shot was taken through a window of a roadside restaurant next to a feeder.

I don't have much experience with shooting hummingbirds and I found did close to miraculous have a tiny change in posture and feather angle can make these little guys light up like a rainbow.

Canon EOS 40D + Canon EF 300mm f4L 1/100s ISO800, natural light

I know there's many amazing hummingbird shots in these galleries so I appreciate you having a look!

Andrius, it does look a little soft, but that could be from shooting through the window. To me the pose is a bit awkward, but the colors are very nice. There are a couple of brighter spots I think should be darkened some, one on the left at the end of a branch, which tends to lead your eye out of the frame, and a second to the upper right of the hummer. Nice to get a look at a different hummer. Thanks for sharing.

Andrius, I wouldn't have known this was shot through a window if you didn't mention it. Love the colours in the bird. The straight on pose is not the strongest and the busy background directly behind the bird is not ideal either. But hey colour goes a long way in my world. Nice job! :toast:

Andrius, this may be the most colourful hummingbird I've ever seen photographed! He is simply "on"! Way cool. Great job to catch him like this and get him perfectly focused. I will say the beak angle isn't ideal for me...or I guess the head angle altogether as I wish for a little different look at the eyes, but I still can't pull my attention (and admiration) from his crazy metallic colours. Thanks for sharing this guy with us!
