Mirrored Monarchs

Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted September 30, 2013354 views13 comments

From last summer. Cropped from horizontal; added a little bg at the top and bottom because it was a bit tight. Fellows Riverside Gardens, D700, 180 macro, f8, 1/800, iso 800. Questions, comments, suggestions welcome.

This is great. I love that the lower butterfly looks like a reflection or mirror image! Really nice catch to get 2 butterflies in this position! the DOF is perfect and the colors work very well together

Scott, I agree that it's a bit tight, but you could add even more canvas. Wonderful detail and color, and getting them both in the plane of focus is a real bonus.

Don't know how long you had to wait for this, Scott, but it was well worth it ! Excellent capture of the butterflies and a lovely composition, against a nicely graded bg. Beautiful !!!!

Scott - I am wondering what suggestions to offer

. One Monarch would make for a terrific frame..Now you have two - that too perfectly placed for a killer composition.

I might have seen hardly two or three Monarchs this whole season. Just one Swallowtail in my front yard. Bad year for butterflies here but not so bad for Dragons/Damsels.

That's two more Monarchs than I saw this summer.

Nice to see there are still areas that they are being seen.

And you've taken full advantage of the opportunity - absolutely beautiful!

Spectacular, Scott! One is tough enough, but you have managed to get two in a perfect pose, on a nice flower with a great background. Beautiful work!

A very beautiful & artistic image with excellent color & composition, Scott. The kind of image I call a wall-hanger.

Scott: Beautiful duo. Terrific plane of focus management to get both of their wings sharp. I really like the perch as well. I would be sorely tempted to clone away the lower stem although filling in the hidden antenna might be a trick. 2+ thumbs up! >=))>
