End of the Day

Hi all! Well, it's been way too long since I've been active on NPN, but my family and I have certainly been dropping by often and admiring all of your great images. As my daughter mentioned, we took an incredible 5wk+ road trip this spring that rolled into a crazy summer...the summer culminated in us finding a wonderful little acreage to call home which of course meant a wild run at getting our home sold and us getting ready to move.

I decided my first image "back" should be this peaceful scene photographed just down the road from the new Launstein home. I know photographing wild animals that have been impacted by human activity like this isn't what all of us here might find most appealing, but I hope you'll indulge me all the same.

I do have several frames with this young buck striking a pose, but this one felt the most natural, and I thought worked better with the soft light at dusk.

If you have time, I sure like the 1200px version better!

Strong composition with some interesting diagonals and elements for the eye to rest. But the main focus is on the deer as it should be. I particularly like the way the lower third of the frame is in focus and then the rest recedes in layers of progressively more oof planes. I think I want to be your neighbour.

Very nice animalscape. Personally, I probably would have picked a shot when he had his head up, but head up or down a sweet shot. I also might have taken a sliver off the top and added a sliver at the bottom. It sucks that you live there and I don't.

Nice pastoral feeling, John. I don't find the agricultural setting to be a detriment at all.
