Hi everyone! Taking a small break from the elk with this pic. This is a black bear cub from last month in Waterton. He and his mother started out in the middle of the hill, but sadly there was too much brush in the way for me to get a clear shot. After a while, they decided to go up the hill and over the ridge. The mother was already over the ridge, but the cub gave me one final look before catching up with his mom.

At first I didn't like the rock on the right because I thought it was distracting, but after I looked at the crop without it, I realized it was actually a really cool part of the image.

The rock face in the background is a really cool feature in this area and I wanted to make it an important part of the comp. Geologists say it is some of the oldest exposed rock in the entirity of the Rocky Mountain range, and yes, it really does have these pink tones (in fact, further up into the park it turns downright red!).

Thanks for lookin'! :wavey:

Nicely done Jenaya. I think the rock helps tell the story, so I like the way you cropped it.

It is hard to know how much detail you have in the dark fur of this little guy with online posting...but I think this is an excellent composition and would be best appreciated in a large print.

Personally, I'm a fan of this type of wildlife image where the habitat/landscape weighs-in large. I wonder how this would have looked if even more of the rock on the right side was included, say 1/4 of the horizontal width? Nice sense of depth with the distant mountainside in the background.

A beautiful scene Jenaya, love the depth with the BG mountain, and the RHS rock anchors the frame nicely. The look-back makes it.
