We waited for ages and this Leopardess just lay still, eventually the sun set behind her, so I thought that an experiment was in order. The question is does it work.
Taken in Savute Marsh, Botswana
EOS 1DX
200-400 mm 1.4x at 480mm
ISO 800
F6.3
1/4000

I think the experiment has been a success professor. Awesome composition and the rim lighting is sublime, wouldn't change anything. :toast:

It works big time!!! I don't know about you Ken, but I'm experiencing some serious lens love with the 2-4+1.4x

Beautiful highlight from the sunset and a nice composition. I would critique these by suggesting increasing the 'Fill Light' for the shaded areas if you shot in RAW.

Why wouldn't it work? Lovely light and mood. Perhaps needs a hint more at the bottom for balance, and I would lighten the shadows just a touch.

Thanks everybody for your supportive comments.

James,
So far the 200-400 mm is proving the perfect Wildlife lens
John,
I think fill light has disappeared from CS6 and is now called "shadows"

The cat with backlighting looks great. I find the background a little distracting, but minor in impact overall.
