WC 605- Gastropod

This was a challenging assignment for me; it took three trips to my yard to find something interesting to shoot; things are slowing down here in New England. On the third trip I was going to get some close-ups of a bare spot covered with a low-growing moss when this critter came along. Besides being gastropods (stomach-footed), slugs are also hermaphrodites, having both male and female reproductive organs. The hole is called the pneumostome, which leads to a single lung. Tried to get an ID, but couldn't find a good match on the Internet. Taken on an overcast day with my Nex-6, ISO 800, 1/30, f/22, 55-210 tele lens with a Hoya macro lens attached, hand-held. Comments and suggestions are appreciated and thanks for viewing.

The saturated orange from that fallen evergreen leaf makes a great foil against the green moss and your slug pulls everything together. I like the details in the slug's back. This is a great example of how overcast light saturates the colors.

I really like the composition, the light, the colors, the curves and the detail in the slug.

Well, you certainly rose up to meet the challenge, Jim! Great find for our theme and well photographed. I like the perch of this slug and how it contrasts in color with the background. The lighting works great to give just enough sheen to the slug to convey it's slimminess (not sure if that's a word) but not too much to be distracting. Overcast days work great for these kinds of macro images and, as Mark said, help make the colors nicely saturated. Nice curled pose of the slug and good comp overall.
