Slate-coloured Junco

I believe this is a female Slate-coloured Junco (Junco hyemalis), but since these are migratory birds in our area, I'm not that familiar with them so stand to be corrected.

All comments, critique and suggestions welcome.

Tech stuff: Canon1D4, 500mm, f/11, 1/320sec, ISO-250, Spot Metering, Manual Exposure, Tripod.

Beautiful pose and composition. I like the softness of the feathers. If I was to critique the shot perhaps a closer crop might bring out the detail on the feathers. The background would still hold.

Very nicely done Rick, I like the background and nice sharpness on the head. Probably no reason to go below iso 400 with that camera body, the extra shutter speed is almost always helpful. Did you buy a 500F4? :toast: My guess would be Oregon Junco by the way, although they are both subspecies of Dark-eyed Junco.

@Nate - yes I bought a 500/f/4 last year and just love it.
