Rhue, Inverpolly, Scotland

First, a big thank to Ian Cameron, one of greatest landscape photographer i met in my life, he took me around in 1 day to see the beauty of Scotland, it was worthy and i was happy for that trip.

This is a shot of Rhue lighthouse with its reflection, the shot was one of my best and finest shots from Scotland, it was my first winner shot ever in a website as well, so it is in my mind for lifetime.

Canon 5D classic
Canon EF16-35mm f2.8L mk1 @16mm
f/22
0.4 second
ISO 100
Hitech GND [i can't remember which one, either 1.2 or 0.9]

Very nicely seen and composed. The foreground adds interest, but the reflection gets a bit lost. The gray sky and lighthouse are background, in my mind, so I would crop just a tish off the top to draw the eye into the reflection more.

Thank you very much for the comment.

You are right, but i like to keep it as it is to keep it wide and the proportion of the image size, also one may agree about the crop others may not prefer or recommend the crop, but all comments are there to learn from, and i wish to go back to do better.

Beautiful scene Tareq. I like the composition and how you placed the rock pool. The sky is very nice also. Great job on this.

Beautiful image, with a good reflection and ominous sky. I agree that a small crop off the top would draw the eye to the reflection better, but this is still a fine image either way. Well done.

Thank you very much, Rob, i have another shot in Landscape orientation with better reflection but no much good foreground, but i liked this one more due to the foreground, maybe i will post another shot later.

I need to read my photos better so i should know when and how i can crop or what to crop.

Hello Tareq

I thought I recognised the lighthouse. The reflection pool surrounded by rock and lichen works very well with that moody sky. The reflection of the lighthouse seems in reasonable proportion to the lighthouse above it just a minor bit of distortion due to the wide angle but still pretty acceptable. There is a raindrop or something in the bottom left corner that smears across a dark gap in between the rocks I would just wipe that bit clean with PS and I think you have a very worthy shot.

Thank you very much, Ian, you are right, i didn't notice that spot, good catch!

Well, Scotland is beautiful and i liked this kind of atmosphere, not always looking for sunshine clear sky, i hope i can visit there again and not sure if you would like to meet again and taking me around to new places again

Hi Tareq,
You're capturing well this scene by a good composition and nice tone, so it's interesting and impressive to see white lighthouse with elegant shape. The whole is harmonized well by beautiful color & light . And, the nice reflections draw out an additional good atmosphere, too. You have placed the lighthouse in the upper part of the frame; this creates excellent balance and harmony. well done. :wavey:
