Common Spreadwing

A few weeks ago we visited the Devonian Botanic Garden near Edmonton. So many flowers, so many colors.

This Common Spreadwing or Northern Spreadwing (Lestes disjunctus) was rather patient with me and kept returning to this beautiful red and yellow flower (Amaranthus tricolor). I liked the combination of the red/yellow swirls and the linear blue/black Damselfly.

Canon 7D, Sigma 150 mm macro 2.8 + 1.4 TC, f/14, ISO 800, 1/400 sec, monopod, natural light, LR5, PS-CC and NIK suite. Cropped to 70%.

All comments are much appreciated. Thank you for all your comments on my previous photos.

A lot going on here, Roger, but it works for me because of the way the blue and black damselfly stands out from the red/yellow bg. I especially like the damselfly's big blue eyes.

Interesting, my first reaction was that there's too much color and detail making the damselfly hard to see, but then I looked at the larger version and the damsel stands out nicely. That's one wild mix of colors and shapes, nicely captured.

I had the same experience as Mark, Roger - finding that it needs the large version really to strike home. Excellent capture of the damselfly and a rich and well composed bg for it to rest on.

Love the detail in the flower and the subtly hidden damselfly Roger. This is really cool, great colors ( I like them bright).
