Presence Of A Grizzly

"Those who have packed far up into grizzly country know that the presence of even one grizzly on the land elevates the mountains, deepens the canyons, chills the winds, brightens the stars, darkens the forest, and quickens the pulse of all who enter it. They know that when a bear dies, something sacred in every living thing interconnected with that realm... also dies." - John Murray

Taken in Lamar Valley this past week. It's really quiet here in Yellowstone, I could get used to this.. to bad it won't last

This is how to photograph a grizzly! Excellent dof to include just enough habitat around the bear. The light is also very nice, love the way it just catches the side of his face. You might try and decrease the brightness just a tad on his shoulder if possible. Good and sharp on his face too. :toast:

I just love this one Zack! It really does show the essence of the great bear and I whole heartedly agree with the quote you shared. There's nothing quite like being in grizzly country. My only little nit would be the silver highlights on his back looks a bit hot.

I agree fully with Gary's comments. This is a superb pose and lighting angle!

A beauty, Zack. Love the way you composed it. Double catchlights in the eyes really make the feeling of direct contact between you and the bear. Without them something is missing. While the colors here tend to be subtle and subdued, there is nothing subtle about this guy.

Zach,
Real nice work, I imagine getting steady focus can be tough given the excitement. Colors and tight dof really adds animation to the face. This will make for an amazing large print. :toast:

Love the quote Zack and great image of the grizzly. I like the golden side lighting on it's face and the matching light on the hill in the background. The overall tone of the image is also quite nice. Great job! :toast:
