A great blue heron coming in for a landing in the last golden light just before sunset. I like the pose and especially the light in this shot. Taken at White Rock lake in Dallas, Texas.

D300s, nikkor 200-400, 1/1000 @ f4 ISO 400

Robert,
The lighting here is what makes this image special. Never mind the great action and outstanding pose, the golden light on the Heron and on the trees from the far shore reflecting on the water really creates a warm, end of a long day mood that is very nice. I believe a little clean-up of some of the specs (more noticeable in the large version) reflecting from the water would improve this beautiful composition.
