Frogmouths

In Sri Lanka we visited the Sinharaja rain forest. We had a very enthusiastic guide who was constantly looking for wildlife. Sometimes he disappeared into the forest and asked us to wait. At one time he came back completely excited and asked us to follow him. We did of course and there we were eye-to-eye with a couple of sleepy frogmouths. They opened their eyes for just a few minutes, just enough to take some photos. Than they went back to sleep the rest of the day.

Ellen ...a beautiful capture of the ceylon frogmouths. I remember about 15 years back when we were out for census, and was looking for the frogmouth in the western ghats in India, and was considered extinct. Lovely image..

A terrific image. I assume this is a mated pair and that the male and female have different color/plumage.

I was smitten when I first saw a Tawny Frogmouth in an exhibit at the Philadelphia zoo 30-35 years ago. I'd love to see one in the wild someday but know that will never happen for me.

Very cool shot of these strange looking birds. I can see why they are called frogmouths. Excellent shot.

Ellen found one of these strange looking birds in Queensland, I do like your shot of these two showing there different plumage.

What a cool find. Very nicely exposed in what looks like a tough environment. I particularly like the different coloration between the two.

Great setting Ellen and i like the way the birds are facing in different directions but they both have their gaze fixed firmly on you
