Another frog shot from Costa Rica. We also found this one during my scouting visit to Selva Verde. This was my first time seeing this species' nictitating membrane, which is more commonly used during daylight hours (I normally only find these at night). Pretty cool.

Canon 1DX
Canon 100mm macro
ISO 800

f/9

This is one of the best close-up frog images posted here that I can remember, Max. Love the pose with the frog clutching the plant, and the frog's eye is amazing. The macro & close up gallery is sensational this week. :toast:

In the thumb, I was thinking that this frog was holding a comfort toy, but no those are it's feet. The details in the eye are amazing. Great catch.

I love this! I have a couple of "big wide red eyes at night" shots myself and there's millions of others out there. However, I haven't yet seen such a great daylight capture with eyes (naturally) closed. Or even better so, ALMOST closed. Great close-up :toast:

Nice sharp eye.. and what an interesting closeup look of it!
And I agree with Scott, the frog clutching the plant helps make this portrait exceptional :toast:
