I went out today under partly cloudy skies, & spend an hour with the Variegated Meadowhawks. This is their last effort of the year to propagate the species.
F/7.1, 1/1250th, ISO 1000, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x ext with fill using manual focus.

Awesome capture, Howard. You absolutely nailed the mid-air focus and interaction. Many kudos on this one. :toast: :toast:

Great catch! I'm not so sure, that he's going to catch her. She looks like she's really "booking it" with her legs tucked in tight and wings to fast to photograph! :toast: Really cool image in flight

Hi Lucy & thank you!
FYI - They're hooked together, and flying in tandem.
Male's in front, female in tow.
I attempted shots of the two as she oviposits, but none worked out :wavey:

Wow, I'm impressed, catching a mating pair in flight with manual focus. You also got a good comp. and a nicely oof background. Very well done.
