I have a hard time discarding otherwise acceptable images like this one due to clipped parts. Crop to portrait? 7D, 500/F4+1.4, F8, 1/640, -0.33 EC, ISO 400, Full frame. beanbag Thanks for any suggestions, Dave

Gorgeous light and excellent detail, David. This is a tough one. In many cases, I'd say make a portrait of it, but I'd hate to lose the lovely iridescence of that wing. If you happen to have one with the full length tail from the same session, you could add canvas on the right and maybe the bottom and piece in the missing tail. I'm not familiar with this species, so I'm not sure how much is clipped.

A lovely capture of an extremely interesting looking bird. I agree with Dennis, if at all possible you can get the whole tail in the frame along with a tad more of the perch. The light on the wing does make it gorgeous. Perhaps a little iris enhancement would make the eye pop a wee bit more also. :toast:

Boy, this would have been fantastic without the tc on. Dennis's idea is great but I would certainly keep the image as is even if you can't put it together with another one that includes the tail. You could also crop to portrait and make a second version. The lighting and detail are beautiful :toast:
