Scrub Oak Bouquet

An evening in the Gunnison National Forest, Colorado. I had just spent about an hour rushing/bushwhacking to a spot I thought would be a perfect sunset opportunity that I never made it to. Hot, sweaty and pissed, and about 20 ft from my truck I found this lovely scene...Go figure, maybe I should have stayed put eh?

Comments and Critique welcome.

Well I'm in love. I popped on to NPN to catch up after work, and this was what met my eye. Magnificent in so many ways Kane; one of my favorite fall images in awhile.

A very nice image Kane. Isn't it funny how we sometimes get so focused on something that we fail to see things 20 feet in front of us. Unfortunately I think that happens a lot in life.

Gorgeous in every way Kane. Maybe just a little less blue on those trunks and this would be perfect. Great perspective and depth as well! :toast:

Wow, great scene Kane. The colors in this are wonderful and a great composition. Your back rounds lately have been great and this is no exception. One of the better fall scenes I've seen lately. Great processing on this. Maybe a tad blue in the trunks but great as is. :toast:

That is a familiar sounding story.... But this is not a bad reward at all for all the sweat and hard work! I like it a lot!

The comp and color of the leaves cause them to explode from the frame in a dramatic way. The arrangement of the trunks throughout the frame give this a balanced feel that is very pleasing to the senses.

Kane, I like how you have processed the light and color of the leaves. Your placement of the 3 trunks in the frame is real good also. I would prefer less blue in the right 2 trunks so they are more like the left-most one. Maybe darken the brightest aspen boles in the upper left? One of top my three favorites of your fall collection.

I remember seeing this one on FB. I really like the richness of the color and the depth to the composition in this image. If you are posting this here I can't wait to see what you have in store in the fall color contest!!

A gorgeous intimate, Kane. Marvelous color, and I like the twilight blue on the foreground tree trunks indicating it is near evening. Sometimes we don't see the potential of a scene until it is in the right light. Good job seeing through your frustration of not making it to your planned site for sunset, but still recognizing the beauty right before you.

This image is definitely music to soothe the savage beast. Stunningly beautiful, expertly captured and presented. The best part for me is the rhythmic "back beat" of white tree trunks. Very nicely done.

A fabulous explosion of color. The three main tree trunks incorporated in your comp make this one for me.

Absolutely beautiful Kane. Very skillful composition. I might reduce the bluish cast in the trunks a bit (but I'm on an uncalibrated monitor at the moment, so take that with a grain of salt). Thanks for sharing this.

It's hard for me to comment on the blue--it looks really blue on my laptop but my color management on this monitor is pretty off. But this a real pretty scene, Kane--i like the comp a lot! :wavey:

Kane,

I think it's beautifully done and a standout.

I do think the overall saturation is a bit too high. It's just a little too vibrant for a quiet image, to my eye. I'm less worried about the blue in the trunks than the greens and reds in the leaves. I'd also try to bring down the aspen boles a touch.

I'm jealous, though.
