Tending His Doe

Continuing in the theme of "the rut." Here's another photo of a buck keeping close watch on a doe he hopes(?) will be receptive. Although I doubt deer have hopes. But sounds good anyway. Again I was lucky to find these deer relatively out in the open. A bit of chaos in the trees and other veg behind them but I think they are relatively free of that confusion. I got a nice pose from the buck and, as usual, the doe seems to care less. If I could have gotten the buck to back up a bit, it would have had a nice portal to be seen in. The light was pretty good so I didn't play too much with it except to tweak the sliders a bit, warm it up some, add some contrast, and a bit of sharpening. Got some light to fall on the bucks head and antlers which was a nice addition to the photo. Didn't have to crop so this is a full framer. I would appreciate any comments or critiques you might have.

Hi Peter. No shortage of deer in your neck of the woods, lucky guy! I like the way these two are oriented to each other. The buck's head is up and that's great but he looks a bit preoccupied with the photographer. It's a picky point, but had the buck been gazing to the distance ahead of himself it would lend a different feel I think. Since you are shooting these guys a lot I would think that this might be the sort of the little refinement I would probably be considering. You certainly have a passion for the photography! :toast:

Thanks for the feedback, Gary. Yeah, no shortage of deer for sure. A regular runner on the trails last week counted about 55 deer. Attached with no post work is an image that might be the idea you were trying suggest too me. Doe isn't in a nice position so I passed over it. Appreciate suggestions like that as I definitely can work on it as I certainly have the subjects at hand.

Yes Peter, that's exactly what I had in mind. A diamond in the rough without processing but I like it!

I like both of these, and it is too bad you can't switch the does or the bucks. Good color, good poses, nice detail. Wish we had an area around here, but even in the Parks and Nature Center land there is limited hunting. Also, I am amazed at what you are producing with your outfit. Thanks for sharing.

Peter, Nice capture. I like the pose of the buck, and the visible eye of the doe as she grazes.
