Tulip and Leaves

Yes, an unconventional composition, but I liked the result of it. Thought the lone leaf and the extra negative space on the right provided enough balance to the main tulip.

Not sure if it works for everyone. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Please see the larger version.

Nikon D200 1/3s @ f/8

Thanks for taking a look.
Your comments and critique are always appreciated.

Enjoy!

Sanjay:

Like you said, unconventional. The tulip and the leaves are beautiful and the lighting and imaging are technically flawless. I am not too sure about the composition though but guess its the unconventionality that I am not used to. Got to break out of the box now and then to expand ones repertoire. Not quite sold on this one but I salute you for your experimentation. Let's see what other have to say.

The starkness is very striking. It's a very interesting and challenging experiment. I like how the tips of the leaves set an angle across the frame. Comparing the regular version with the larger version suggests that the black frame from NPN isn't helping the regular size image at all. When I look at the larger version, I wonder about two alternatives, one with a bit more green at the bottom and another with the leaf tips along the corner-to-corner diagonal.

Sanjay - For sure unconventional but I am not sold on the composition. The leaf coming to the right seems dis-jointed from the main composition.

But I like your spirit of experimentation

Beautifully lit and coloured, Sanjay, and I like the idea of all that negative space. Can't help, however, wishing for more of the flower in view - for me this might work better, I guess, in a vertical format, still leaving plenty of space in the upper R.

Simple and elegant. I like the unusual comp, and the background and lighting really make this shine.
