Dreaming Of Winter

I am working on releasing a new collection from Rocky Mountain National Park and upon searching through older files for that collection I came across this image I made last winter up at Dream Lake.

It was bitter cold that morning with gusting winds that made it feel even colder. I used my headlamp to navigate to the lake for a sunrise shoot. Unfortunately the light did not cooperate that morning and the first rays of sunshine were blocked by a band of clouds to the east. I shot this about a half hour after sunrise, when the sun rose above the clouds and finally lit up the mountains above the lake.

Thanks for looking and leaving a comment. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Nice man. I'm sure your dream will be a reality soon enough, if it isn't already!

Hi Zack,

Nice photo. I especially how like how the blue ice and blue sky work well together. The white band of snow on the lake leads the eyes to the mountain pass, too.

Well done and Happy Thanksgiving.

Zack, I like the lines in this and how they lead me back through the scene. I also really like the blue tone in the foreground ice along with all the detail. Looks like lots of little bubbles trying to reach the surface. Pretty cool...

The cracks in the ice and the band of snow at mid-frame are excellent leading lines in this piece, Zack. Very nice use of the "rule of thirds" here.

Nice image Zack. Looking at this image makes me feel cold! I like the comp and how the blues tones in the ice are similar to the blues in the sky.

this is nice, Zack! Ive seen a million+ photos of Dream and this stands out with the odd angle and nice balance. One minor suggestion--maybe a tad more midtone contrast in the peaks (?) I hope to get up there in the next week or so.... :wavey:

Beautiful ice pattern. Even the pattern in the snow adds nicely. Real nice image.

That crack makes a great leading line, Zack, and the blue in the ice balances well with the sky. This is a lovely look at Dream Lake.
