Great blue heron

Great blue herons are one of my favorite birds. I shot this one coming in for a landing at White Rock lake in Dallas. I like the lighting and the dark BG in this shot. I also like the trailing splash his feet made skimming across the water as he landed.

D300s with 200-400 nikkor and TC 14 HH

Nice action shot and excellent detail on a moving bird. I like the water splash, too. Not sure about the branch in the foreground, though it does help to frame the heron with the branches in the background.

Really nice action shot Robert. I also like the trailing water. I do wish the branch in the FG wasn't there, it's a bit distracting. Only thing you can obviously do about it is clone it out, but not sure if you feel about it. I don't care to do much of it myself, but I do think it would improve this quite a bit.

Sweet shot of this heron alighting, the water splash makes this one for me Robert. I like the light on the bird, and the dark background is great too. I agree with the others about the foreground branch though.

Great stop action technique, nice job getting it this sharp @ 1/1250th hand-held Robert.
I especially like the trailing water, well done :toast:

I like the action and the water drops, Robert. Excellent detail in the Heron. The foreground and bg logs bot feel a little odd to me. Did you burn them to bring down the brightness?
