Anti-cute
by Dennis Plank
We spent a few days at the Jabiru Safari Lodge in the Mareeba wetlands when we were in Queensland this fall and there were a couple of male Emus with chicks and some assorted singles wandering around. I'm not sure if you'd list them as baited, though they did throw out left-over fruit from the lodge for them. We encountered this one along a path from our tent to the main lodge.
5Diii, 300mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, hand held, f5.6, 1/6400, iso1600 (I'd been shooting in dark areas on our morning walk and had neglected to change my settings). Av mode with no compensation. I brought the highlights down quite a bit in ACR. Otherwise processed in CS6. Noise reduction using Neat Image, though the noise wasn't at all bad. Cropped to 15.6MP. Taken October 23rd at 7:31 am.

9 commentsI like this a lot it certainly is not pretty, but nowhere near as ugly as a Maribou Stork chick
