Autumn Fern, Yosemite

Harley and I were wandering one of the ghost forests in Yosemite Valley late one afternoon where we found some nice details that included charred trees. You can view Harley's images from this area by going to his NPN Gallery.

I find char to be very interesting. Aside from the varied textures, and what at first glance looks black, actually contain tiny areas of color, and highlights with a silver sheen.

I like the blackened tree cradled by the tawny ferns and needles. And I can see the rainbow sheen in the black.

Wonderful detail and I love the colors and shine of the charred wood. Excellent intimate study, Preston.

I love this Preston. The golden brown color is so sweet and contrasts nicely with the char. Well done.

Nice! Really like the textures and contrasts here. It take a moment to connect with the charred wood, which is perfect. The moment of hesitation is exactly what's needed to really draw me in.

Hi Preston,

Colour contrast is what drives this photo for me. And it's nice to see a new life in this scene as well. My eye actually goes to that small green tre in bottom left again and again.

Cheers,
Marko

This is cool, Preston. In the thumb, I thought it was some warm fall ferns against a black background, imagine my surprise to find all kinds of neat patterns in the burnt tree trunk....definitely needs to be viewed large.

The contrast of elements and black vs orange is great here. On my calibrated monitor on Safari the orange looks like it could use more saturation. I am sure on un-calibrated systems and or, on IE especially, people may disagree...
