Ol' Scarface

Scarface was the name that came to mind when I looked at this photo on the computer. Don't know if those are scars but they look like it to me. I was out this morning in the cold (for here) to check on the deer at the nature preserve. After a non-productive first half, things got busy with this guy being the king of the hill until a bigger guy arrived. That will be tomorrow's post. Never could get him into sunlight so this is the best I was able to capture. Nice big brute for sure. Looks like he's a bit scuffed up on the side from encounters with other bucks. I noticed today that there are a lot of "walking wounded" bucks in the preserve and not just the smaller bucks. Must be lots of dominance tests going on among the bucks. I made a few changes to this image by increasing contrast and playing with the other sliders to get a faithful photo. Comments and critiques would be appreciated.

Peter,

Clearly the light was not on your side, but the image has "scrubbed up" well.
Seems to have had a few scraps judging by the damage to the antlers.

Nice one Peter. On my monitor there seems to be a slight magenta cast. I like the pose, shows his antlers well. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting buck and decently framed by the surrounding trees. It is a pity about the single stick that is upright between the antlers! Ideally one would wish for a posture showing both front legs so he wouldn't feel like a three legged deer.
