Australian Bustard

by Dennis Plank

Gallery: AvianPosted December 13, 2013105 views7 comments
Taken, appropriately enough, at Bustard Downs in the hill country at the north end of the Atherton Tablelands. The plumage on the backs of these birds is really cool. The patterns look like feathers themselves, except feathers arranged in all directions. You can get a hint of that in the larger image.

5Diii, 300mm f4 + 1.4TC, hand held, f8, 1/1600, Av mode with no compensation, iso800. Processed in CS6 and cropped from the horizontal with extra canvas added to the bottom for the virtual legs (hopefully enough). Taken October 20th at 10:12 am.

Your comments and criticisms are most appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Strangely I reckon the grass makes this one. Real habitat stuff.

I like the way the head and neck pop up out of the foreground grasses and stand out so well against the BG grass. Also like the alert heads up posture. Nice job.
