Curious Squirrel

My property has a lot of oak tress which attracts quite a number of squirrels. They are such curious little creatures and seem to love to make long eye contact with humans. As a newbie, I enjoy photographing them for practice if nothing else. In this shot, I went for a narrow depth of field to purposefully highlight the squirrel's face. Particularly since the rather grainy nature of the tree would draw attention from the face.

Hi Sandy,

Even though they are common, I always enjoy watching squirrels. This one is curious, and watching out for his or her safety, and you have captured the gazing face nicely. Good thinking on the narrow DOF. In my opinion, it would be nice to see the entire bushy tail, too; even out of focus.

Thanks Randy, I do love watching them - they put on a all-day, daily show. Your point is well taken and certainly would have been an interesting shot. In this one, I just loved that curious face so much I wanted nothing to distract the eye from it. I do have reams of them showing off bushy tails though!
