Frosty Air

I was out to the nature preserve early this morning. While it was frosty, it was a bit warmer than previous days. I caught a lot of deer doing various activities, but this backlit doe struck my fancy. I like the bright outline to her, the puffs of her breath, and the nice dark BG to show her off. I had a couple of other poses that I could have used, such as looking straight ahead, looking slightly to the left, and straight back. Curious about whether others would have preferred a different head turn. Also should I have cloned out the veg in the ULHC? Comments, critiques, and suggestions welcomed.

Hi Peter, I wholeheartedly agree with your self-critique, the lighting is very nice. I like the head turn just as it is, perfect. I do find your choice of 1250 iso a bit unusual and suspect that you could have got away with far less shutter speed. Compositionally the deer is placed perfectly but I do wish you could have somehow introduced more of the lovely overhanging branches for framing and balance.

Great image, Peter! I love the light and the pose of the deer. I agree with Gary that a bit more of the overhanging green would be even better. But I like it as it is. :toast:

I like this for the rim lighting and clean background.
