Northern Hawk Owl

I received a message this AM about a Northern Hawk Owl about 10 miles south of my home in VT. It was about 8F with winds around 15kts when I arrived. Got permission from the farmer to enter his property and slogged through some freshly fallen snow to get this image. This is the first Northern spotted in Vermont this year that I'm aware of. We had one three years ago that spent the winter-one can only hope that's the case with this guy.

Awesome birds - well worth the cold weather to get this image.

Really nice image! Good comp and I like the windblown, ruffed look. Nice bg and the one leaf left gives a nice sense of time of year. Sharon

Congratulations, Charles. I share your excitement in that I had the good fortune to be able to photograph one of these owls about 10 days ago. I like the fluffed up feathers. These guys are so much fun to watch. As I look at this image, I am thinking of the possibilities if the branch over his back was removed.
