Hideout

I was almost done the other day, when I stopped to scan an area. I noticed something that didn't look right but couldn't really figure out what it was. I looked and looked but nothing seemed popped up as wrong. I decided to use my tripod as a monopod and peer through the camera at the spot. Bingo, deer hiding in the vegetation. So I stopped and took a few photos but the deer was so far away, that even at 200mm on my rig, the deer (now seen as a buck) was pretty small. When I got home and got the images downloaded, I found the deer to be one of the bigger bucks in the area. I figure he was just looking for some time to rest and recharge. So this photo is of the deer shown in his hideout and cropped by somewhere in the neighborhood of 40%. I hope it gives you an idea of the place he found. I'm also posting in the follow up comment section, the base image I got from the camera at 200mm. It gives a better idea of where he was within the context of the surrounding habitat. Comments and critiques welcomed.

Okay, now here's the view from my camera racked out to it's greatest power at 200mm. You can imagine what the spot looks like with just your eyeball. I think this guy found a pretty good spot to rest from the rut.

I think you did well to spot this guy in his hideaway. Nice image and good story. Thanks for sharing.

Without a chance to get closer, this serves as a fine documentary of who you are pursuing with your lens! Now the task is to find a way to get close and in a favorable setting! Keep after him.
