Nothing too special about this image. I am posting it to show my ongoing results with the Canon 200-400 that I rented. I used my Canon 5D Mk II body with this shot. The 5D has better high ISO performance than my 7D. In some of the low light situations that I have been shooting in, I had fairly slow shutter speeds, as I was reluctant to go to a higher ISO due to the noise with the 7D.

With the 5D, I used an ISO of 160, but the shutter speed was still only 1/125 s. I guess it worked out okay, as I was using a Wimberley head on a tripod.

Comments and critiques welcome on the image and camera/lens combo.

Canon 5d Mk II
Canon 200-400 f4 IS
f5.6
Focal Length 560 mm (extender engaged)
1/125 s
ISO 160

Hi Jerry: Did you intend to say the iso was 1600 instead of 160? Nice shot, anyhow. I didn't realize this lens had finally hit the market, though I'd have to win the jackpot to afford it  . Detail in the hen looks good and I really like what the lens did for the oof water in the bg.

Dennis,

The ISO was indeed 160. However, I probably should have bumped it up a bit to get a faster shutter speed. Higher ISO's with my Canon 7D had lots of noise.

Nice crisp image of the widgeon. That lens seems like it should be really versatile!

I think this image would be better if it were a bit brighter. Seems dark on my calibrated system.

Keith,

I agree it looks a little dark after I saw it on the site. I enclosed a lighter version.

Super details on your wigeon. I like the lighter repost best. Curious...would that 2-4 accept a teleconverter? I'm glad you posted the hen...real nice! Sharon

Sharon.

Thanks for the comments. The Canon 200-400 will accept an add on teleconverter. I haven't tried it, but the blogs that I have been reading suggests that the image quality suffers.
