A Lion ( Panthera leo ) staring right at me. Image taken in the Lebombo area in Kruger National Park right after a heavy shower hence the soaked appearance of this predator.

EOS 1D Mark IV - EF300mm f 2.8L Is USM - 1/200sec @ f4.0 - ISO 500

Hello Mario

Clear and detailed. Excellent capture.

The eyes are very piercing and focused.

Too bad about the roadway, but can see the feet clearly.

Cheers

Hey Mario,

If I was you I wouldn't show this shot to the lion...he might be a little ticked at you (kind of how snapping a shot of someone just as they come out of the shower usually doesn't endear them to you!).

I like the "rawness" of this image - and how it captures a majestic animal looking not-so-majestic (i.e., the way nature IS, more often than not). You definitely chose the right aspect ratio and positioning of the animal in the frame is pretty much optimal (no need for more or less room on top or bottom, at least in my opinion). Your chose of DoF works for me too. I'm agreement with Mr. Bickle about the road...obviously nothing you could do about that, but my own preference is for wildlife images having no obvious "hand of man" included...(which is getting increasingly challenging to do, quite admittedly!).

Cheers...

Brad

Certainly a different-looking lion. Ignoring the road, I just think this is a fascinating character: the eyes, the damp fur and the length of that mane hanging down like an overcoat. Thumbs up.

He reminds me a little of the "wizard of oz" lion for the rumpled appearance, but he is decidedly not cowardly! Good low perspective adds to the impact.

This big guy has loads of character as Max has indicated. Lon has hit the nail on the head with his reference to the Lion in the Wizard of Oz, in fact isn't that the Yellow Brick Road leading to the Emerald City? You really made the most of the opportunity, nicely photographed. :toast:

Mario,
Roads are always a problem, but the magnificent pose and the appearance of the subject far override this, marvelous image :toast: :toast:
