After the Storm

The ice storm went on through the night. This morning, the ice was quite spectacular. Unfortunately, lots of trees were splintering and crashing to the ground from the weight of the ice. I photographed this tulip tree seed head covered with ice (k5 IIs, ISO 320, f8, 1/125sec), 15 images stacked with Zerene Stacker, sharpening with Topaz Detail, Gaussian blur 50% on background. Enjoy..............Jim

Before and after scenes! I like it. Same comment as the last one except that I like the composition of this one even more. That freezing rain sure is tough on the vegetation.

Even though these ice storms can be quite destructive, they also present many wonderful photographic opportunities. . .such as this interesting specimen. . .IF you are willing to brave the elements! Like Gary, I like the view of before and after scenes. An interesting alternative may have been to take the exact same POV as your previous shot, but with the ice coating. But this is a fine image in its own right. Very good details throughout with a nicely blurred background. Hope you didn't get pelted by falling branches and ice to get this shot!

I have actually been awakened by the sound of tree limbs laden with ice crashing to the ground. This is a nice macro shot detailing what happens during an ice storm. Background is nicely blurred, details are sharp, and I like the composition of the seed head coming down from the top. Nice!
