Another backyard Cardinal. I like the color variations in the females and think they have a very regal look about them.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

Approx 30% crop
Canon 7D
Canon 70-200 2.8 IS @ 105 mm
f11 @ 1/25 sec
Canon 580 Ex ii @ 1/16

Seasons Greetings

This time I remembered the larger version -

Nice pose, LeRoy. I think the flash was a bit too strong on this one. The highlights on the lower belly and beak look a bit bright on my monitor. If you're shooting RAW you can probably tone them down in processing fairly easily. You could probably get away without flash if you opened your aperture to about f5.6 or so. I think that with the lens you're using you'd still have adequate dof. Nice image, and Merry Christmas to you.

Nice pose and detail...not real sure why the flash though? Are you battling shadows? Asking, because it doesn't seem like any branches are nearby. Also, f/11 is probably way more DOF you need for a bird this size unless you are shooting at macro range. Just some thoughts...but I would have maybe tried opening up the Aperture (maybe f/6.3 or even 5.6 with that 70-200 depending on your distance to the subject) and that would have increased your shutter speed drastically and unless you were fighting shadows, you would not have needed the flash. I don't know your experience level and not trying to assume it...but just trying to give you a few more things to think about.
