White Ibis portrait

My mission here was not to submit the "standard" ibis photo of which I have a considerable number in my collection, but to capture an up close portrait with good detail down to the dirt on the beak. I also love the blue eyes of the species and I think that the dark background enhances them even more. This was shot a couple of days ago and unlike my habit of jamming close up shots into the frame, I actually left this shot some breathing room on the top and right. Slowly learning.

Shot at 400mm, f9, 1/640, ISO 100

Nice dof and excellent detail in the whites, Sandy.

Thanks Dennis - I have so many of them strolling about both adults, juveniles, both together, ones with other birds, etc., etc., but I think this one is the most dramatic!

Awesome portrait showing a lot of detail. Their blue eyes are really something and you captured so much fine detail in the feathers which is exceedingly difficult with this particular species

Thanks so much Luke - they certainly can be a challenge to get good detail and exposure, but I must admit, it took a lot of trying!
