The New Husky Stadium

One of the photo highlights of the year for me was being in the air to shoot the opening of the newly-renovated Husky Stadium in Seattle. I was fortunate to be in a helicopter to document several aerial views of the new stadium at dusk, during the University of Washington's season opening football game against Boise State. I came away with a few photos from various angles that turned out well, including this view of the stadium with parts of Seattle and the Olympic Mountains in the background.

Great photo. The best I have seen. I was in the stadium for the game. Your image is so sharp that I can see myself. I'm the guy in the purple husky sweatshirt sitting on the 35 yard line about 25 rows up on the south side.

This turned out very well. It must have been fun to be in the helicopter. And I can see Jim on the 35 yard line. The sweatshirt makes him stand out.

This is a tremendous photograph. Exposure and color balance are superb. Not to mention the sharpness. Not sure how much post processing went into this final rendering, but whatever you did was exactly what was needed. In fact, I'd love to know what the original file looked like in comparison, and what methodology was used to bring it to this point. Well done.

Thanks guys. Michael, there wasn't a lot of work that went into the processing. With all of the images, I had to bring up the shadows a bit. There's a fine line between bringing out the details in the dark surroundings and blowing out the lit stadium, so I relied on the Shadow tool in ACR and some additional Shadows/Highlights work when I opened the file in PhotoShop. Obviously I didn't want to overdo it and give it a fake HDR look. The main goal was to process these for a limited edition metallic print series, and the results came out really well. I was pleased with the results and the sales!
