On the Edge

Please check out my Favorite Images of 2013 on my blog!

Looking over the edge at Dettifoss, Iceland, July 2013.

Standing next to this massive waterfall was an incredible experience. The thundering roar of the falling water was truly amazing. The falls are 330 feet (100m) wide and the drop is 150 feet (45m). The waterfall kicks up an enormous amount of spray which can be seen from miles away on a clear day.

Nikon D800, Nikkor 16-35, polarizer
0.5 sec at f/16, ISO 50 - single exposure. B/w conversion in LR5 with a few finishing touches in PS CC.

Thank you for any comments or suggestions. Please check out the larger version.

The toning on this one is really nice, the blue steel color really emphasizes how cold the water would have been! Great image Scott!

Beautiful picture. I like the use of black and white. . . . you almost feel the noise of the waterfall.

A fantastic work of fine art, Scott! :toast: The conversion just adds to the epic sense of grandeur here taking it out of it's natural context into light/shadow, tones, and forms. :toast:

Scott, This makes an awesome b&w image. Your conversion processing here looks super! I like the steel blue tones and the powerful feel it gives this image. :toast:

Super image Scott. A little more sky might add to the sense of place without detracting from the awesome power of the falls that your image expresses well. :toast:

Ooooh! I like this one Scott. Perfect conversion. The drama and power in the BW and comp work well for me. I especially like the mist below the falls.

Great collection of images, Scott. It's really too tough to pick out a favorite from that collection, but "Jökulsárlón Wildflowers" really stands out to me. I don't recall seeing "Oregon Countryside" before but it also stands out to me. I really enjoy seeing your work so thanks for sharing.

This image belongs with that collection as well. I really feel the power of the waterfall. Excellent composition with great lines and moody contrast. :toast:
