Sun halo

I captured this Sunday morning, 0932, central Kansas. The local sandpit was frozen over. I saw this halo, and figured the best look would be at the sandpit. I blended 6 17mm exposures (3 each high and low) then combined them in Photoshop to create the final crop. This allowed me to capture more of the foreground. This was my first chance to photograph a sun halo locally; I captured a moon halo a year ago on Christmas Eve. C&C always welcome and appreciated.

The “sun dog” is a fairly rare refracting/reflecting display, great job on this Rob.
I understand the real prize is when the whole sky is webbed by intricate arcs..
I like the comp with the iced over sandpit and FG interest.
Well done & Happy New Year! :toast:

This is a terrific example of the atmospheric optical effects of ice crystals and your blending efforts look great. You've caught more optical effects effects here than a "sun halo". If you want to learn more, there's an excellent UK web site, here. Check out the ice halos section to see what all you caught here.

Thanks for the comments. Mark, I actually found that site after posting the photo, as I was curious what all I was seeing in the photo.
