Oregon Junco

I know they've reclassified it, but that's what it still is in my head. I spent an hour this afternoon redoing the feeder station in front of a blind I built last summer. The perch is a horizontal branch that the feeders are hanging from. With any luck this will be productive of several other species. I've also just started trying to use Lightroom as my organizational tool and front end processing-we'll see how that goes. It seems like a reasonable way to cull the junk anyhow.

1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Black Widow head mounted to blind window, f7.1, 1/160, iso1000, Av mode with -2/3 compensation (I was hoping for Chickadees and didn't want to blow out the white cheeks). I adjusted the WB a bit in LR5 and tweaked a couple of other sliders, then went to CS6 to rotate the image, crop it to 12.4MP, do some noise reduction and resize for the web. Taken this afternoon at 2:21 pm under cloudy skies.

Your comments and criticisms are most welcome.

Thanks for looking,

a nice look from this junco, Dennis. it's a good looking perch and I like the hint of pine needles in the bg. you obviously didn't have much light to work with here so this isn't really an option in this instance, but since this is a setup that you'll have more opportunities with, I would try for more DOF to get that whole perch in focus since it's so nice.

Dennis, I do admire this photo. The only thing I would look for is just a bit more light on the dark side of the juncos head. I have been trying with little success to get a decent shot of the juncos we have here in Illinois, your photo shows it can be done. Thanks for sharing.

A pleasing image for the most part. Natural colors and good 3D look with the light on the head. I'd crop off about half the perch here to reduce the distracting OOF part at the bottom.

Beautifully detailed bird and an interesting perch. I like the hint of pine needles in the top portion. Sharon
(As a side note....I find LR to be the easiest place to crop and rotate when necessary!)

Well done Dennis. On both the image and the restaging of the perch.
